We were deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of our friend and colleague Nigel Hullah. Nigel, who was diagnosed with early-onset dementia in 2012, was an active and well-loved member of the European Working Group of People with Dementia, since his nomination to the group in 2020. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Alzheimer Europe is pleased to announce that Idoia Mendia MEP (S&D, Spain) and Johan Van Overtveldt MEP (ECR, Belgium) have joined the European Alzheimer’s Alliance (EAA). The EAA tally has now reached 88 members from 22 countries and we are excited to work with them all, helping to ensure dementia is a policy priority at a European level.
The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human use of the European Medicines Agency has issued a negative opinion on the marketing authorisation application of Eli Lilly for donanemab for slowing disease progression in people with Alzheimer’s disease. It found that the benefits of treatment did not outweigh the risks. It is unfortunate that people with Alzheimer’s disease in Europe will now be excluded from access to donanemab, without the possibility to make their own choices together with their treating physicians.
