31 December 2017: AE publishes 2017 Yearbook

The 2017 Alzheimer Europe Yearbook focuses on the topic of residential care facilities in Europe. It provides an overview of the existing care standards and regulatory requirements these facilities need to meet and addresses key areas that impact on the people in residential care: Physical environment; Staff providing care; Health and social care; End-of-life care; and Abuse and use of restraint.

31 December 2017: AE explores implications of recognising dementia as a disability

Alzheimer Europe has published a discussion paper “Dementia as a disability? Implications for ethics, policy and practice”. The European Working Group of People with Dementia (EWGPWD) was involved right from the start, giving their perceptions of disability and dementia and supporting us in the development of an accessible version of the report.

15 January: The PRODEMOS project kicks off

On 15 and 16 January, the PRODEMOS project held its kick-off meeting in Amsterdam. This project aims to make an evidence-based dementia prevention strategy using mobile Health accessible to those at increased risk of dementia who are usually not reached by preventive medicine.

24 January: Dementia is included in WHO work programme

Dementia has been included in WHO draft programme of work 2019-2023, following a statement by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) and advocacy by Dementia Alliance International (DAI), Member States and civil society ahead of, and during the 142nd Session of the WHO Executive Board in Geneva.

29 January: ROADMAP launches survey on outcomes in dementia

On 29 January, the ROADMAP project launched its recently finalised surveys to obtain views on the importance of different aspects that relate to mild cognitive impairment and dementia to assess meaningful change in disease progression.
